South Africans had a shock last week when their weekly lottery draw produced a massive eighteen winners. Although a great result for most South Africans many are unhappy and feel there is a little trickery at play.
In fact some even go so far as to say they won’t play the lottery again after one single draw produced eighteen winners. For one player to match all the winning numbers is a staggering thirteen million to one and many South Africans feel that to see eighteen players select the same numbers isn’t just improbable but impossible too.
It isn’t of course and that’s the thing with the lottery, as unlikely as the odds may seem, someone will always beat them and win the jackpot. Or in this case eighteen players will beat the odds. The jackpot was a high one and that means that every one of the eighteen winning players received over R1 million.
It’s not the first time it’s happened in the lotto with 19 players sharing the jackpot back in 2001 and a staggering 33 sharing it in 2003.
Of course even by them standards it has a long way to go before beating the record share that happened in the UK back in 1995 when 133 players shared a National Lottery jackpot, said to have happened when the numbers drawn were mainly numbers likely to be chosen because of birthdays.
Play the lottery, where everything is impossible, yet possible!
